There’s something special about Nellie Donovan that draws you in the moment you hear her sing or witness her perform. Perhaps it’s her rich, soulful voice delivering every song with absolute conviction and emotion; sung as if for the first time and drawing a picture of an artist in touch with her true self. When she closes her eyes and sings you feel every word, every line, and embark on a journey with a songwriter not afraid to expose her life openly and honestly.

Nellie Donovan came from a simple background, growing up with three older brothers and loving parents on a dairy farm in Conondale, Queensland. It was a happy childhood and Nellie was kept busy with horse riding, fishing, motorbike riding, rodeos, picnic races, and local dances to attend. It was only later in life, after she landed a lead role in her grade 12 production of “Grease Lightning” that Nellie found her true calling and began to follow a path in music. From there she started singing at friends weddings and it wasn’t long before Nellie was fronting a local cover band performing in clubs and corporate functions around Queensland.

Gaining in confidence, Nellie drew inspiration from artists such as Melissa Etheridge, Garth Brooks, Eva Cassidy, and Sarah McLachlan and took the first steps towards expressing her feelings in song when she was introduced to respected producer Michael Flanders through a mutual friend. This led to her teaming with established writers Chaise Flanders, Col Finley, and Jason Kemp and Nellie’s songs began to take shape. With an arsenal of quality songs, a top-line producer, some of Australia’s finest musicians and her raw talent and passion Nellie entered the studio to fulfill a lifelong dream and record the album she knew in her heart that she had to make. The result is a collection of superbly crafted songs with an edgy, modern country texture, with Michael Flanders subtle production ensuring Nellie’s compelling vocal treatment comes to the fore.
