CLUB COUNTRY Sunday, 8 Nov, 10.00am | Hailing from South Australia, Kristy Cox is a natural born performer. When you hear her pure, distinct vocals, it’s hard to believe that she is only twenty-one.
When Kristy was four she told her parents "When I grow up, I’m going to be a singer" and put on shows for her family and friends in her lounge room. Kristy’s dream of becoming a singer became a reality when she stepped on stage for the first time at the age of eleven. At twelve, she decided to teach herself guitar with the ambition to write her own songs and perform solo. Not like any ordinary teenage girl, Kristy spent her weekends travelling to festivals near and far with her parents for any opportunity to get on stage. Before long she was winning nearly every talent quest she entered, using the prize money to get to the next one.
Kristy has always worked hard to achieve her goals. She started her first part time job at thirteen to earn extra money to put towards her music. Kristy attended Mount Barker High School and graduated in 2002 with a score of 98.5 majoring in music. As part of her studies she learnt bass guitar as a second instrument. She was accepted into the Brisbane conservatorium of music, but decided to defer to concentrate on following her aspirations of a career in country music.
Some career highlights to date include being the only person to win both the Junior and Senior Champion of Champions in S.A. She was one of 6 winners of $20,000 in the 2002 Nescafe big break. She received a scholarship to the 2004 Australian College of Country music and was a StarMaker grand finalist in 2005 and again a finalist in 2006. She has also supported artists, Slim Dusty, Kasey Chambers, John Williamson & Beccy Cole. After graduating from the college, Kristy moved from her home state, in order to follow her dreams of becoming a professional singer.
Currently residing in Melbourne she finds more opportunities and inspiration for songwriting.
2006 has seen the release of her debut Album, 'From My Eyes' which contains 9 original tracks. Kristy’s raw talent and versatility have really shone through with her much anticipated first album. The recording shows her ability to nail a country rock song with Reverse, and then pour herself into a balled with, Don’t say you love me. She also touches on another of her loves; bluegrass covering the classic Rough & Rocky and then quickly makes a turn into Country Pop with Easier To.
Kristy Cox is very passionate and determined to succeed in the country music industry. Having gained much experience at a young age she is defiantly one to look out for. Her breathtaking vocals, bright and genuine personality appeals to a wide audience and leaves them craving for more.
